Invited Session of CCC 2018

Advanced Technologies for Precision Farming, The 37th Chinese Control Conference:

The Invited Session proposal aims to disseminate the research outcome of joint UK-China Agri-Tech research programme. The project is jointly funded by UK Newton Fund managed by Scientific and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) and the National Science Foundation of China for 3 years. With a growing population, a higher demand for food diversity and a decreasing amount of arable land, there is an increased requirement for food production and land use efficiency. Precision agriculture (PA) or site-specific crop management is the-state-of-the-art farming management concept for this end, which observes, measures and responds to inter and intra-field crop variability (e.g. drought, disease, weed, nutrition) with the goal of optimizing returns on inputs while preserving resources (e.g. water, fertilizer, herbicide). The potential benefits of adopting PA include profitability, sustainability and protection of the environment, resulting in positively economic, environmental and social impacts. Control, signal processing (including state estimation) and automation are key enabling technologies for precision farming (PA). 

The practice of PA has been enabled by the advent of many advanced technologies including high precision positioning systems (e.g. GPS), sensing systems including remote sensing (e.g. satellite, airplane and UAV), Automation techniques (e.g. Robots), variable rate technology, etc. New advances of different technologies for different aspects of PA are also being made. As a result, there is an urgent need for a invited session dedicated to precision agriculture. In particular, organizing such an invited session, on the one hand, can present the state-of-the-art research and provide a platform for further develop, on the other hand, would attract more researchers from diverse research background into such an important and exciting research field. In this context, we would like to propose an invited session for the CCC 2018 entitled “Advanced Technologies for Precision Farming”.
