The members of LUCAS, Dr. Fanlin Meng (research associate in Autonomous Vehicle) and Mr. Jinya Su (PhD student at his final stage) won the highest awards from Chinese Governments for oversea PhD students, i.e., “Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-financed students Abroad” http://www.csc.edu.cn/article/521 .
The award is set up to honour overseas Chinese students pursuing a PhD with outstanding academic accomplishment across all academic disciplines. Developed in 2003, the awards are based on academic merit and encourage international Chinese students to achieve first-class results during their studies. This year, 500 students have received this award all over the world, where 31 of them are studying in the U.K.
Dr. Fanlin Meng has been awarded in recognition of his PhD research on “A Game-theoretic and Machine-learning Approach to Demand Response Management for the Smart Grid”. He received the PhD degree from the Department of Computer Science, Manchester University in December 2015. He then moved to Loughborough University conducting his research associate work in decision making for autonomous vehicle from Oct, 2015. His feature work is “Meng, Fan-Lin, and Xiao-Jun Zeng., A Profit Maximization Approach to Demand Response Management with Customers Behaviour Learning in Smart Grid.” IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid. Jinya is awarded in recognition of his PhD research on “Uncertainty estimation Theory and its applications in fault diagnosis”. He started his PhD in Oct 2012 and now is writing up his thesis. His feature work is “Su, Jinya, Baibing Li, and Wen-Hua Chen. "On existence, optimality and asymptotic stability of the Kalman filter with partially observed inputs."Automatica 53 (2015): 149-154.”.
