On the 19th June 2014, an EPSRC autonomous and Intelligent Systems Partnership (AISP) review meeting took place at Loughborough University, with around 30 delegates in attendance. Hosted by LUCAS and Prof. Wen-Hua Chen, the session was led by BAE Systems and reviewed the current progress of three EPSRC projects, each undertaken by a different university.
Loughborough University are developing new situational awareness and decision making tools designed to work under increased levels of uncertainty, whilst Oxford university are researching methods of verification and validation for autonomous functions. In addition, the University of Bath are investigating collective autonomy between humans and machines.
In additional to 4 delegates from BAE Systems, representatives from DSTL, Network Rail, and Schlumberger also attended this review meeting to explore potential applications of autonomous system technology in the defence, rail transport and energy sectors.
During the lunch break, a flight demonstration of small
scale Unmanned aircraft systems was carried out by the researchers at LUCAS.
