It is widely anticipated that increases autonomy will make a profound impact in many industrial sectors and our daily lives in the future. However, in order to accomplish this there remains much research to be be done to ensure and prove the safety of using autonomous systems related technologies.
With the funding from Office of US Naval Research and UK Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), a new Technical Work Group for Verification and Validation of Autonomy has recently been formed. The purpose of this work group is to address the imperative safety challenges faced by manufacturers, regulatory authorities, end users and the public.
The first workshop of this Technical Work Group took place on the 16th and 17th of June, and was organised by Imperial College London. Prof Wen-Hua Chen was invited to give a keynote speech during this workshop, related to the Verification and Validation of Collision Avoidance systems for Unmanned Vehicles.
